NEW POLL REVEALS NEVADANS CONCERNS WITH NV ENERGY
Recent service cuts, high electricity rates and corporate compensation fuel public dissatisfaction
RENO, NV – A recent statewide telephone poll conducted October 8-11 found that forty-four percent of Nevadans have an unfavorable view of NV Energy and that customers are deeply troubled by NV Energy’s corporate conduct.
The poll of 400 registered voters found that seventy-five percent of respondents are very concerned that NV Energy customers pay the highest residential utility rates of any Mountain state. Sixty-four percent of respondents said they had a great deal of concern about NV Energy CEO Michael Yackira earning $4.5 million.
NV Energy is slashing health benefits to over 600 retirees while reporting $182.9 million in profits last year. Fifty-six percent of Nevadans polled are “concerned a great deal” about NV Energy’s treatment of retirees.

“NV Energy has fallen short of living up to its obligations,” said Ron Borst, a retired journeyman lineman and President of the Reno/Sparks Retiree Club. Borst adds, “It’s a shame that this once great company is now putting customers, and retirees, at risk while they make record profits.”
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1245, who represent more than 700 utility workers in Northern Nevada, last week issued a petition to the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada requesting an investigation into NV Energy’s failure to adequately plan for future staffing needs. A copy of that petition can be viewed here.
NV Energy workers and retirees have outlined many of these concerns through the Shame on NV Energy campaign. The campaign's website has collected over one thousand online petition signatures and its Facebook group, Facebook.com/ShameOnNVEnergy, has nearly 6,500 supporters.
