Shame on NV Energy, IBEW Local 1245 Retirees’ Club To Protest Outside PUCN Consumer Session on Monday
Protesters will present PUCN with Nevada Ratepayers' Bill of Rights at the consumer session
RENO, NV — The Shame on NV Energy community and the Reno/Sparks chapter of IBEW Local 1245 Retirees’ Club will protest outside the Public Utility Commission of Nevada’s (PUCN) October 3 consumer session. The group will present the PUCN, and any representatives of NV Energy that may be in attendance, with the Nevada Ratepayers’ Bill of Rights. Press is welcome.
“Nevadans already pay the highest residential electricity rates of any Mountain state - all while CEO Michael Yackira pocketed over $5 million in compensation last year,” said NV Energy retiree Rita Weisshaar. “And with another rate hike in the pipeline, it's time to tell NV Energy: enough is enough!”
The Nevada Ratepayers’ Bill of Rights holds NV Energy accountable on rates, protects Nevadans from being overcharged while corporate compensation soars, ensures environmental standards are adhered to and makes ratepayers – not shareholders – the utility’s first priority. Nearly 700 people have signed on to support adoption of the Bill of Rights.
