Shame on NV Energy - Corporate Greed in Nevada That Will SHOCK You
Our most recent ad highlighting NV Energy's SHOCKING corporate greed ran in the Las Vegas Review Journal and Carson City Appeal. NV Energy announced it made $227 million in profits in 2010 - a near 25% increase from the year before. And, CEO Michael Yackira gave himself a raise to $5.3 million a year - a 42% increase since 2008 - on the backs of customers, workers and retirees. This type of corporate greed should shock you!
NV Energy said their profits came from "cost-control" efforts - eliminating electric line crews throughout Nevada and closing all but one customer service office in the state.
NV Energy also cut health care benefits to its 600 retirees when they needed it most - forcing them to pay 100% of all increases in their health care premiums while on a fixed income and refusing to negotiate with retirees for the last eighteen months.
SHAME ON NV ENERGY
America’s leading consumer research firm once gave NV Energy the highest ranking for customer service in the West. But after years the eliminating service line crews and the closure of all but one customer service office in the state - NV Energy ranks dead last. Executives have pushed these cuts while reporting over $225 million in profit and paying CEO Michael Yackira nearly $5.3 million. And now, NV Energy is breaking its promise to retirees by slashing their health care when they need it most.
